Calder 3 vs YMCA
C3 were the only Calder team playing this Saturday against the current league leaders YMCA, who had only lost one game previously this season.
The 3s started confidently - some accurate shooting by the new combination of Kim Walters and Pauline Williamson helped by incisive feeding into the circle by Lucianne Hinch and Jo Hall set the tone for the game. The first quarter ended with C3 being ahead by 17 goals to 5.
Injury to Hinch meant that changes were made at the start of the 2nd quarter with Liz Harrison coming on and changes in positions for other players to accommodate. After a short settling in period the game started to flow again with the Calder defence of Pia Rattigan and ,player of the match, Lyndsey Foster putting pressure on the YMCA shooting duo. The quarter ended with a score of 24 to 14.
Further tactical changes were made by Coach Phil Greenhough in quarter 3 with captain Kay Hollingworth replacing Molly Brearley who had done a sterling job at WD. This resulted in Calder pulling further away from their opponents and the score for the quarter ended as 40 to 22 in C3's favour.
Continued pressure down the court, especially in defence where Calder were actually at a height disadvantage, and continued accurate transitions and feeding into the shooter meant that they retained the 18 goal advantage with the game ending 49 to 31.
