Calderdale 1 vs Alliance
Calderdale 1 travelled to new league venue Corpus Christi on Saturday to play Alliance.

Calderdale won the toss to take the first centre only for Alliance to turn the ball over and get the first points on the scoreboard. Some accurate passing from the opposition saw Alliance make a strong start with a lead of 1-7 early in the quarter. This dominance continued throughout the first 15 and left Calderdale facing a 10poitn deficit at the close of the quarter - 7-17.

The second quarter was a more convincing affair from Calderdale after coach Phil made some changes to the team structure. Fast and accurate passing from centre court to attack provided plenty of opportunity for the shooters to convert, which they did. At the other end of the court, excellent defensive pressure from Calderdale provided much needed turnovers and enabled them to close the gap on Alliance’s lead. Second quarter score 26-23.

Calderdale began the third quarter with the same drive as they had built in the second and scored immediately but not without a good fight being put up by their opposition, Alliance still pushing throughout and scoring at every opportunity they could find. In the latter end of the quarter Calderdale took the lead after accurate shooting and an all-round excellent team defensive effort. Third quarter ends 34-33.

Calderdale began the final quarter with possession of the ball but with Alliance still pressurising they forced a turnover which they then converted from. Alliance regained their lead with the next goal scored but whilst their focus was to build on this momentum, this gave Calderdale the push they needed to dig deep and battle back. Down the line passing, tight marking, picking up turnover balls and solid defensive circle pressure made sure Calderdale cemented the win. Coach’s Player of the Match went to the whole team for their winning performance finishing 45-39 and Sue Seymour and Sophia Samuels shared the Player’s Player of the Match between them.

Calderdale 4 vs Leeds Lightning

Newly formed Calderdale 4s celebrated their first victory of the season, beating Leeds Lightning 2nds 45-37.

Coach Phil Greenough tinkered with the line up at each quarter as both teams went goal for goal over the first 3 quarters, till he found the winning combination.

Defenders Rosie Baldwin and Ella Cooper restricted Leeds Lightening to just 5 goals in the final quarter. At the other end of the court joint players of the match Harriet Grace and Olivia Reynolds found their groove as their confidence grew converting an amazing 16 goals to seal the victory.
