Calder 2 vs Hi Lites
Calderdale 2nd team continued their winning streak on Saturday with a convincing win against Hi Lites
Calderdale came out of the blocks determined to win in the 1st quarter. Great link up play in attack and accurate feeding into the circle from captain Sarah Heaton at C and Lisa Lund at WA combined with the experienced precision shooting duo of Paula Hird at GS player of the match and Gail Gledhill at GA saw Calderdale take a 12-5 lead.
Hi Lites came out fighting in the second and third quarter and upped their game. The tight defensive duo of Lorelle Donaldson GK and Sue Seymour GD combined with maintained pressure from WD Hannah Yates kept Calderdale in the game.
The final quarter saw Calderdale down to six when Jasmine Douglass GD, who had worked tirelessly to intercept and turnover the ball, came off with an injury. Heaton made changes and moved Lund in to defence with Yates and Calderdale focused on keeping possession of the ball.
In attack, Heaton, Hird and Gledhill continued their strong movement and with more precise shooting pulling away to secure their 5th win of the season. Final score 40-34
C3 vs Pennine Weavers
Despite their best team performance of the season, Calderdale thirds failed to secure their first win in a closely contested match.
Calderdale started off in fantastic form against Pennine Weavers taking the lead at the end of the second half (27-24) with plenty of turnovers from the defensive line up and great movement and accurate shooting in attack.
The opposition managed to disrupt play in the third quarter and stop the momentum gathered by that point. At the close of the 3rd quart both sides were level at 34 goals a piece.
Calderdale fought hard to try take control but Weavers capitalised on mistakes made to sneak a 45-41 victory.
Goal keeper Hannah Godfrey and Goal Attack Liz Harrison shared the team’s player of the match.
C4 vs Leeds Medics & Dentists
Calderdale 4ths were growing in confidence with their 2nd win of the season, beating undefeated Leeds Medics & Dentists.
A closely fought battle from the start, it was Calderdale’s full court defence that was Leeds’ undoing.
In mid-court player of the match Ella Cooper, and the energetic Olivia Reynolds worked tirelessly to cut off Leeds’ attack. Turnovers were then delivered at speed by WA Amelia Weston into the trusty shooters Bethan Hirst and Harriet Grace, who combined well to covert over a taller and more experienced opposition defence.
Calderdale increased their lead every quarter to bring home the victory – final score 25-16.
