Calderdale 1s make it 3 out of 3 with a convincing win over Harrogate Phoenix 51 - 39.
Calderdale had new defensive and shooting combinations from previous weeks as they saw Sue Seymour return to the side as GK, Amy Hunt-Brown out at GD, Captain Sophia Boothroyd at GA and player of the match Kim Walters at GS. Calderdale led from the start and never looked in danger, opening up a 15 - 12 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The 2nd quarter saw 3rd teamer Jo Hall make her 1st team debut of the season at WD, and Calderdale started to come into their own with some free flowing netball down the court, great tips and turnovers from Seymour and Hunt-Brown for the attack to capitalise on.
Young star Emma Bullough returned to the court in the 3rd quarter with instructions to mark her upponent tightly, & Calderdale stretched their lead to 7 goals. Calderdale stayed in control to stretch away for a comfortable win.
Calderdale 2s had a disappointing 51-29 defeat against Wakefield Phoenix 1 in the Premier Division of the West Yorkshire League.
The game started off fast paced with 3rd teamer and player of the match, Pia Rattigan helping out her 2nd team colleagues, putting up some lovely shots and drives as GA. In the second quarter C2 defence Clare Hunt-Brown GD and Louse Stones GK stuck to their set plays and put pressure on the Wakefield attacking circle. Interceptions from Jasmin Douglas WD were supported by Hannah Yates WA and Sarah Heaton C, getting the ball back into attack. Unfortunately this wasn't enough and Wakefield Phoenix extended their half time lead to 27-14.
The third quarter had fresh legs with Gill Coldwell at WD and Paula Hird at GS, both players making an instant impact with additional pressure and interceptions in defence, and lovely long shots from attack. Gail Gledhill switched to GA in the final quarter and the changes worked well moving the ball in and out of the circle to get within shooting range, but it was too little too late, and Wakefield Pheonix romped home the victors.
